A great library is more than just books and a building. As a center for research, culture and learning, it is one of the greatest assets of any community. We in Cupertino are particularly fortunate. Our library is the busiest, most active library in a system recognized as one of our nation’s best: The Santa Clara County Library System.

Our library operates with the support of tax dollars, but the demand for services continues to outpace available funding. While the city provides the building, the county library system supplies the staff and materials. Unfortunately, both are facing significant budget challenges.

By joining The Friends, you will help support essential services and resources not covered by the library’s budget. Volunteering your time further strengthens the library’s ability to maintain its important role in our community. These are some of the many Friends sponsored activities:

• Underwriting programs of general interest to the community
• Sponsoring special events for children and young adults
• Raising funds by holding a Used Book Sale three times a year
• Running the ongoing book sale in the library lobby
• Sponsoring summer reading programs for children and teens
• Purchasing gift books for the library collection
• Providing the buffered bestsellers collection- the latest, most in demand items
